With Earth Day approaching, now is a good time for organizations to take a fresh look at their environmental initiatives. According to a new report from CBRE, ESG strategies are shifting—becoming less about broad commitments, and more about measurable action. As the urgency around climate risk and regulatory expectations rises, facility leaders are moving from low-cost fixes to high-impact solutions rooted in data and results.
At KBS we’re helping companies make that shift—supporting ESG goals with responsible sourcing, efficient equipment, and safer, cleaner solutions. Here are three ways we’re putting sustainability into practice:
1. Chemical-Free Cleaning Technology
CloroxPro recently reported that 60% of facilities have set goals to increase their use of eco-conscious products. This often means leveraging chemical-free cleaning alternatives that are easy and safe for employees to manage and don’t damage the environment.
KBS continually invests in tools and technologies like aqueous ozone that reduce impact while still delivering high-quality results. A non-toxic cleaner, aqueous ozone is created on-site using tap water and electricity. Certified by the EPA, Green Seal, FDA and others, it's proven to eliminate 99.9% of pathogens and naturally reverts to water, leaving behind no harmful residue. It’s safer for building occupants and staff, and it significantly reduces the need for harsh chemicals.
2. Equipment That Saves Resources and Cuts Emissions
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is often a top priority among those leaders committed to sustainability.
To this end, KBS focuses on cutting emissions and saving resources with high-efficiency tools built for sustainability. For example, we’re replacing propane burnishers with battery powered units, and are shifting to longer-lasting TPPL (thin plate pure lead) batteries in cleaning equipment. We are also modernizing our fleets using fuel-efficient vehicles. This reduced fuel consumption by 6.7% and cut GHG emissions by 7% between Q4 2024 and Q1 2025.
Pushing sustainability forward, KBS has made significant investments in proprietary equipment. Our multi-tool cleaning system—now deployed at thousands of client sites—cuts chemical usage by an impressive 60% and water by 75%.
3. Responsible Sourcing and Transparent ESG Progress
Sustainability doesn’t stop at the point of service—it requires a commitment to making responsible choices across our supply chain. In purchasing cleaning chemicals, KBS uses products certified by Green Seal, EcoLogo and GreenGuard. We reduce packaging waste through bulk purchasing and chemical concentrates.
We also leverage the EcoVadis sustainable ratings data platform and other third-party tools, ensuring transparency and continuous improvement. Internally, we are collaborating with supplier partners to create well-developed ESG policies that mirror our commitment in several key areas. This year, KBS is expanding its GHG emissions reporting and continuing to evaluate opportunities for further reduction as part of our broader ESG roadmap.
